Description of duties: The technician will work at OK Slough WMA.   A primary responsibility of this job will be operating, maintaining, and repairing various equipment including chainsaws, handsaws, weed-eaters, 4x4 trucks, all-terrain vehicles, tractors, brush trucks, swamp buggies, mowers, and various tractor implements such as discs, roller choppers, and flail vacs.  Other duties include assisting biologists and other technicians with various land management activities as needed.  Some activities include treatment of exotic vegetation, prescribed burning, fence and road repair, seed collection, tree/shrub planting, wildlife surveys, check station operation, moving equipment on trailers, and general maintenance of buildings/structures.  The technician must be able to communicate well with others and work both independently and as part of a team.

Required Experience, Skills and Abilities: Must have experience in safely operating, maintaining, and repairing tools, power equipment, agricultural equipment and land management equipment.  Must be able to work as part of a team and must be able to work independently.  Must be in good physical condition and able to work outside in the South Florida environment year-round.  Must be able to lift 50 lbs and walk or stand for extended time periods. Incumbent must have a vehicle for transportation to/from the jobsite and a cell phone that works well across Hendry County to communicate with other staff during working hours.  Must possess and maintain a valid Class E driver’s license with a clean driving record (Class A or B CDL preferred).  Regular working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday but must be able to work various hours depending on the need; this may include early mornings, evenings, nights and weekends.
